Course Objectives

Refresh food handlers on preparing food for sale in SFA-licensed food establishments and to pass Food Safety Course (FSC) Level 1 (Refresher).

The WSQ Food Safety Course (FSC) Level 1 (Refresher) is an SFA-accredited programme designed to equip participants with the fundamental knowledge and skills of food safety and hygiene required to be certified food handlers in Singapore. Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to work in various food establishments, including kitchens, hawker centres, and food outlets, in compliance with SFA regulations.

Participants will learn to identify potential hazards in food preparation and implement measures to mitigate these risks. This food hygiene training is crucial for anyone involved in food handling, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and enhancing overall food safety.

Learning Outcomes

Participants undertaking this course will learn to:

  • Practice personal hygiene to minimise food safety risks.
  • Use safe ingredients in food preparation.
  • Handle food safely throughout the preparation and serving process.
  • Store food safely to prevent contamination and spoilage.
  • Maintain cleanliness of utensils, equipment, and service/storage areas.

Pre-Requisite

Most importantly, participants MUST already hold a valid or recently expired WSQ Food Safety Level 1 (or Basic Food Hygiene Course) certificate issued by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) or the National Environment Agency (NEA). During registration, they will need to provide proof of their prior certification.

Methodology

This course is conducted in a classroom setting, providing an interactive and engaging learning experience including role play.

Assessment: 1.5 Hours

Certification & Validity

Participants who pass all assessments, as detailed in the Mode of Assessment, will be certified with a Statement of Attainment (SOA) for the Food Safety Refresher Course (Level 1), issued by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG).

Who should Attend

All certified food handlers who are currently working in SFA-licensed food establishment as per regulatory requirement.

Validity of Food Hygiene Certificate

Food hygiene certification is valid for 5 years upon completion. After passing the basic food hygiene course, food handlers can attend the Food Hygiene Refresher Course within the period as shown below:

Course Funding Eligibility

1. Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents.
2. From 1 October 2023, all attendance-taking for SkillsFuture Singapore’s (SSG) funded courses must be done digitally via the SingPass App. This applies to both physical and synchronous e-learning courses.
3. Trainee must achieve at least 75% attendance.
4. Trainee must pass all prescribed tests/assessments and attain 100% competency.
5. We reserve the right to claw back the funded amount from trainee if he/she does not meet the eligibility criteria.

Skill Future Credit:
Eligible Singapore Citizens can use their Skills Future Credits to offset course fee payable after funding.
UTAP:
This course is eligible for Union Training Assistance Programme (UTAP). NTUC members can enjoy up to 50% funding (capped at $250 per year) under UTAP.
Absentee Payroll (AP) Funding:
$4.50 per hour, capped at $100,000 per enterprise per calendar year.
AP funding will be computed based on the actual number of training hours attended by the trainee.
Note: Courses / Modules under Professional Conversion Programme (PCP) will not be eligible for AP funding claim.

What is WSQ Food Safety certification?
The WSQ Food Safety certification is a nationally recognised qualification for food handlers in Singapore. Ultimately, it equips individuals with essential knowledge and practical skills. If your certificate has expired, you will need to complete the Food Safety Level 1 (Refresher) course to continue working in SFA-licensed food establishments. You should attend the refresher within 5 years of the original certificate date and then every 10 years thereafter.
